****Please note: Each individual person attending must have their own user account in this system and register separately for the class. This allows individuals to be registered for the class in their own name, print any course materials prior to class, complete an evaluation and print a certificate of attendance at the conclusion of class.  IF YOU NEED TO REGISTER MORE THAN ONE PERSON: log in as the first user (creating an individual account), enroll and pay any registration fees, log out of the user account once the registration is complete. This training (Becoming a Certified Delegating Nurse) is the initial course requirement for becoming a Medication Assistance Supervisor. RNs and LPNs with current, unencumbered licensure in AL and who work in programs certified by the Alabama Department of Mental Health are eligible to attend. The training is conducted in a lecture and group discussion format using a standard PowerPoint presentations.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS

  

 LEARNING OBJECTIVES

This training is Medication Assistance Supervisor training for RNs and LPNs, with current, unencumbered licensure in AL, who work in programs certified by the Alabama Department of Mental Health. The training is conducted in a lecture and group discussion format using a standard PowerPoint presentation and is designed for RN/LPN’s who work for or plan to work for a certified ADMH community provider.

  • Every two (2) years, all currently certified MAS Nurses are required to attend an “UPDATE” prior to the expiration date noted on their current MAS Certificate (a Certificate of Attendance does not meet this requirement).
  • MAS Nurses who have allowed their MAS Certification to become delinquent ninety days past the expiration date noted on their certificate, must retake the initial training (Becoming A Certified Delegating Nurse), including the test.

Upon completion of the Becoming a certified Delegating Nurse, the participant shall be able to do the following:

  • Discuss statutes and regulations, specifically the AL Nurse Practice Act and the AL Board of Nursing, Standards of Nursing Practice
  • Discuss American Nurses’ Association Principles of Delegation
  • Describe mediation error types and levels. State reporting and documentation requirements
  • Describe the medication administration process
  • State the 4 components of the Nurse Delegation Program (NDP)
  • Name at least three NDP forms that must be maintained in the MAC File
  • Complete a written competency exam with at least 90%

The Alabama Department of Mental Health is an approved provider of continuing education by the Alabama Board of Nursing (ABNP0150, Expiration 07/12/2021). This program is approved for 5.5 contact hours for nurses.

 

Eligible participants must be in attendance for the full program to receive contact hours. If you do not provide your license number the day of class, you will have a maximum of five business days to provide this information to ADMH Staff Development in order to receive contact hours. Contact hours will be posted to ABN within ten business days of class.
