This course is intended for DD or Elder Care Personnel. If you have not previously taken a Fatal Five course, you may prefer to participate in 'Fatal Five - Fundamentals' as an introductory course.
The Fatal Five are five commonly identified causes of preventable death in persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and in persons who are aging. When recognized early and treated promptly, one can save lives and prevent negative changes in the person's health.
These five conditions are:
* Aspiration
* Bowel Obstruction
* Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease
* Seizures
* Infection/Sepsis
Plus two additional, important topics:
* Dehydration
* Knowing When to Act
Taking these courses will give you the ability to recognize early signs and symptoms of these conditions and feel empowered to do something about it!
