MAC Worker Position
The law (Code of Alabama § 34-21-20 (1975)) states that individuals who perform nursing care for compensation must be licensed. The Nurse Delegation Program is an amendment to this law.
The Alabama Board of Nursing created a set of standards to allow the Department of Mental Health to train Medication Assistance Supervising (MAS) nurses to delegate to trained direct care workers called Medication Assistance Certified (MAC) Workers.
The current requirements for MAC Workers:
GED/High School Diploma required.
The ADMH has created a MAC Worker Competency Exam for the purpose of substituting for GED/High School Diploma to assist providers with recruitment.
- With this competency exam, applicants would be required to pass MAC Worker Competency Exam before MAC I eligibility.
- This is a free exam.
- The exam will be proctored by a ADMH staff member
- You will receive a email a couple days prior to exam with a zoom link.
- You will be required to have a device so that you can be visible throughout the entire exam time. If you are not visible, the exam will not be accepted (no exceptions)
- The exam must be completed solely by the register person. There can not be interference, interruption, or talking among other participants or anyone other than the proctor.
- There is a study guide available on the NDP page of the ADMH website to help prepare you for the exam.
- You will know as soon as you submit the exam if you have passed.
- You may take the exam 3 times only.
- You must be on time for the exam.

A device to log onto a zoom link and in the Relias website that has audio and video capability
WHAT SCORE AM I REQIRED TO HAVE?
You must score at least an 80 on the exam
HOW MANY TIMES CAN I TAKE THE EXAM?
- You can take the exam as many as three times; however, this does not guarantee that you can take it three times in a roll. The proctor will explain.
- Prior to the testing all participants will enter their name and a valid phone number in the chat box.
- The exam proctor will give instructions and answer questions prior to beginning the exam.
- Once you have completed the exam with a passing score you may print a certificate from Relias.
- You will need to maintain your certificate and provide any prospective employer with a copy for their employee records.
