Anatomy and Physiology: Cardiovascular System

Your heart is a muscular pump that is, on average, the size of both hands clasped together. It only has one job, to circulate blood through your body. Your heart even circulates blood to itself.

An average heart will beat approximately 100,000 times per day. The average 70-year-old person’s heart will have pumped almost 1.5 million gallons of blood.

In this course you will learn about the heart, its structures, the vessels that circulate the blood, and the components of the blood. You will trace the path that blood takes through the heart and the entire body and learn about the conduction system (electrical activity) of the heart. You will learn about blood pressure and how it helps maintain circulation. Lastly, we discuss some of the common disorders of the cardiovascular system.
