Elevating Dysphagia Care: SLP Approaches to Nursing Education and Empowerment

Several studies have identified gaps in collaboration between nursing staff and speech-language pathologists (SLPs), resulting in increased risk of aspiration and negative outcomes for patients who may be experiencing dysphagia. This course identifies the role of SLPs in advocating for the value of dysphagia screening and describes best practices in collaboration with nursing staff to support an effective dysphagia screening and management program. Ways to maintain professional and clear communication between each member of the interdisciplinary team are discussed.
