Patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) often present with various dysphagia symptoms that impact nutrition and hydration. This course describes recommended evidence-based swallowing treatments linked with the location of cancer and type of cancer treatment, including surgery, chemotherapy, and/or radiation therapy. The impact of the timeframe for initiating dysphagia treatment on the overall swallowing prognosis is explained. The role of enteral nutrition, typical progression of dysphagia, patient-centered goals, and anticipated outcomes are also discussed.
