Course Description
As the state department responsible for certifying and monitoring community programs providing support services for Alabamians with developmental disabilities, mental illness, and substance use disorders, the Alabama Department of Mental Health (ADMH) enforces compliance requirements to ensure services are provided at a standard that protects the health and well-being of individuals receiving services. Coursework was needed for protocols for serious incident investigations for professionals that work with individuals receiving services. This is a three day course. You must be present for all three days to satisfy the requirements of completing this course.
Objectives of Conducting Serious Incident Invesigations:
- Identify common problems associated with conducting a serious incident investigation
- Recognize types and forms of evidence
- Communicate best practices for a serious incident investigation
- Identify methods of collecting evidence and evaluate testimonial evidence
- Demonstrate taking a written statement and reconcile conflicting evidence
Course Format
Conducting Serious Incident Investigations (CSII) is using a remote, instructor-led format with Zoom technology. In order to successfully participate, each learner needs a computer/device allowing audio/video interaction. The course is conducted over three consecutive days for five hours each day. Participants must be present for the entire course to receive a certificate. Once you have registered, you may click 'MY COURSES'/'ENTER COURSE' to view course information. Sign-in information for Zoom video conference will be sent to participants via email prior to the class start date.
You must register for yourself, as yourself. Each individual attending must have their own user account in this system. The email with the Zoom information will be sent to the email address associated with your Relias account. If the email address with your Relias account is not where you want the notifications to be sent, please update your Relias account information.
If you do not receive your Zoom link at least two business days prior to the start of the course, please email StaffDevelopment.DMH@mh.alabama.gov. Please do not wait until the day of the class or after the class has started to inquire about the Zoom link.
CE Contact Hours
Participants must be present and actively participate in the full three days of coursework to satisfy the requirements of completing this course.
The Alabama Department of Mental Health is an approved provider of continuing education by the Alabama Board of Nursing (ABNP0150, exp. 7/29/2025). This program is approved for 11.7 contact hours for nurses.
The Alabama Department of Mental Health is an approved provider of continuing education by the (Alabama Board of Social Work Examiners - Provider # 0125 expiration 1/31/2026). This program is approved for 9.75 contact hours for social workers.
