Becoming an Approved Delegating Nurse

***Special Enrollment Notice***
Each person attending must have their own user account in this system (Relias). The user account is how course information is sent, the exam is taken, and attendance is verified. This means THE PERSON ENROLLED IN THE CLASS HAS TO KNOW THEIR Username and password for Relias. Attempting to register multiple participants under one account will prohibit the individual from being marked attended. IF YOU NEED TO REGISTER MORE THAN ONE PERSON: You may purchase "tokens" to distribute to employees so they can register themselves.

***Course Update/New Format***
The nurse Delegation Program is currently using a remote, instructor-led format with Zoom technology. The Nurse Delegation Class is now a two-day session class. To successfully participate, each learner must have a computer/device allowing audio/video interaction. Participants must be present for the entire course on both days to receive credit for attending.
Once you have registered, you may click 'MY COURSES'/'ENTER COURSE' to view an agenda and other course information. There are required prerequisites listed here. Sign-in information for the Zoom video conference will be sent to participants via email 2 to 3 days prior to the class start date.
Key Session Points:
This program was designed FOR THE NURSE WHO HAS NOT BEEN TRAINED AS A MAS NURSE. Licensed nurses will be instructed on the Nurse Delegation Program and prepared to teach and certify non-licensed healthcare workers to assist with nursing tasks including assistance with medications in ADMH-certified facilities ONLY.
Prerequisites:
- Alabama Nursing License in good standing(Cannot be on probation or under VDAP)
- Read and study the MAS Nurse Manual located on the NDP page of the ADMH website
- Read and study the Quick Facts for MACs Manual located on the NDP page of the ADMH website
- Submit evidence of the completion of the four mandatory classes located on the ABN website:
- Mandatory Class Part 1 – Overview of the Nurse Practice Act, Board Functions, &
Nursing Regulations
- Standardized Procedures: Practice Beyond Basic Nursing Education
- Delegation & Assignment: Definitions & the Application of ABN Rules
- Scope of Practice for RNs and LPNs
- Submit evidence of a successful completion of the 6 MAC I Modules located in this system
Learning Objectives Day one:
Upon completion of the Becoming an Approved Delegating Nurse, the participant shall be able to do the following:
- Discuss what is NDP and why is it necessary.
- Discuss Laws Alabama Law/ Nurse Practice Act, ABN Standards, Alabama Board of Pharmacy standards, Public Health, DHR, and other.
- Discuss ADMH Divisions and Standards for each.
- Review NDP Policy & Procedure requirements, MAC I, and MAC II training content.
- Discuss the IPMS incident reporting system, to include medication error types, and levels.

- The different Roles of a MAS Nurse -person served, supervisor, trainer.
- Importance of the MAS – MAC Connection- communication and documentation
- Review contents of MAC I – Polices, First Aid, Seizures, Emergency Management
- MAC II – Agency-specific Training, Documentation, Medication Administration
- Documentation Requirements -NDP Forms/correct application & Certification requirements
- Review
Complete a written competency exam with at least 90% of the items answered correctly

The Alabama Department of Mental Health is an approved provider of continuing education by the Alabama Board of Nursing (ABNP0150, Expiration 07/29/2025).
This program is approved for 11.7 contact hours for nurses. Eligible participants must attend the full program and complete an evaluation to receive contact hours.
